"Pete Gets a Job"
by William McDaniel

One day Pete's mother dragged him from his chair
She said "You're going to have to get a job,"
"For all you do is sit around and stare,"
"You're turning into a gelat'nous blob."

For Pete to get a job would not be easy
That he'd never been to school was an obstruction
Pete knew he'd have to work at something sleazy
So Pete, he got a job working construction

Pete did often take unscheduled breaks
The foreman said, "Pete, your work has a glitch,"
"To prove that you indeed have what it takes,"
"I assign you, Pete, to dig a ditch,"

'Twas a shame, Pete did not dig it very deep
He sat under a tree and went to sleep
