I was watching your nephew in your arms the other day
He wasn't sick
Or being rocked to sleep
Nor had he climbed up as high as he could just to be taller than me
You were just holding him
And he lay against your chest
Listening to your heart I assume
Eyes open and watching
Such a look of calm on his face
As I grow older, sometimes I find that calm in other places
Once in a still after passion
When bared to bare, nothing blocked warmth
And holding said more than words
It was different with you
You came by unexpectedly
Standing at my side as I talked
And slipping underneath my arm
Fitting perfectly in the way I wanted you to belong
It was as if you were your nephew
But so was I your nephew
Just having you there, for a moment
