Germans from Paderborn.
I wake up and get my first glimpse of the grandeur that is my hotel-room view! Very nice! I meet some Germans and have lunch with them in-between talk sessions.

Day breaks! Wow, I do have a view!

What a cool building. Much of this is actually part of the hotel!

This is the roof floor of the hotel. Most of the talks are held in a small room up here. When attendees aren't listening to talks, they can come out here and chill.

Gorgeous view!

How did these palms all get to be about the same height?

The soothing Pacific.

All these shots are better by day!

I'm on the way to lunch now, hanging out with a nice trio of Germans I'd met.

We head up the street from the shore to seek some food.

No flash.

Hurrah for flashes! This is Martin, Yvonne and Florian. I met Yvonne accidentally in the morning; she said "Guten Morgen!" (first accident) while passing me on the roof. I responded with "Guten Morgen!" (second accident) without realizing I hadn't spoken in English. She turned and said "Deutsch?". This led to me speaking lots of German for the whole trip! What a major bonus!

We ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. How trendy!

The streets of La Jolla. This is totally a resort town.

We meander our way back to camp.

... passing by the coast.

My new Germans! :)

The seal cove by day. Shanghua and I had walked out to the end last night.

Seals!

Germans!

I don't know what kind of bird this is, and I can't tell from the picture...

Pelicans on the rocks! Wooo!

Is this a pelican?

I tried to get a good picture of these birds...

The sun begins to set.

All the palm trees, right in a row...
