Research Statement

Innovative technologies are being introduced on daily basis to improve human lifestyle. These technologies are based on inter-disciplinary research, and computer science is at the center of this research. The development and availability of new computing and communication devices, and the increased connectivity between these devices are enabling new opportunities for people to perform their operations anytime and anywhere. Advances in wired and wireless networking have accelerated research in the areas of parallel computing on NOWs, grid computing, pervasive and ubiquitous computing, human computer interaction and speech technology.

As a graduate student at Boston University, I was interested in systems and applications areas of Computer Science. My doctoral research was in parallel and distributed computing and thesis title was “Design and Evaluation of Shared Memory for Workstation Networks”. Goal of this research was to evaluate existing distributed shared memory protocols and design new ones most suitable for next generation of high-speed networks. After graduation I was interested in applied research is the area of distributed systems. I joined industry to work on research and development (R&D) projects.

In my first project I worked on a GUI based toolkit to design parallel applications. Later on I lead a R&D group in a startup company and worked on multiple projects related to the wireless networking, mobile computing, mobile web technologies, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), voice technologies using VoiceXML, user mobility and multimodal human interaction.

My industry experience is related to the ubiquitous and pervasive computing, an emerging discipline that is bringing together elements from distributed systems, mobile computing, embedded systems, human computer interaction, computer vision and many other fields. Industry experience provided me opportunities to learn new technologies and stay in-touch with developments in wireless networking and communication technologies.

After four years of industry experience, I joined Zayed university in U.A.E., which is fundamentally a teaching institution. Lack of funds and research environment in the university convinced me to concentrate on distributed online learning technologies especially for mathematical education. While at Zayed university, I published multiple papers, submitted multiple research proposal and received funds for two of these proposal.

My industry experience provided me research and development opportunities but not enough opportunities to publish. Now I am looking forward to a university environment where I can conduct my research and publish finding of my research. My research interests are in the following areas of Computer Science.
