Progress
Plastic is one of the most harmful things we can put into our ocean. Not only is plastic harmful to marine wildlife but
plastic production is a major contributor to global warming. From 1950 to 2012, plastics production have increased from
about 1.7 million tons to roughly 300 million tons per year. However, many people do care about this issue and our fighting to save our
oceans. For example, Youtube sensation Mr. Beast recently promoted #teamseas which is an initiative to eliminate plastic from the ocean.
Alongside with the Ocean Conservancy, a non-profit organization devoted to protect the ocean from today's global challenges, teamseas has set up
a donation service where every dollar you donate, a pound of waste is removed from the ocean. This is just one example of the many where people have
come together to protect our environment.
Here are some organizations that have devoted their time and effort to saving our ocean.
If you have ever ordered takeout from a restaurant, you have
probably seen the abundance of plastic they use for packaging. It is unnecessary and there are many other
alternatives.
Donate
Donating to reliable and trustworthy organizations is probably one of the best ways to support the fight in saving our ocean.
These organizations are science based and are passionate about the issue. Donating even a small amount will positively contribute to
the cause.
Vote
As an individual there is only so much we can do to combat climate change. Electing public officials that support ethical conservation policies
is very important. Your elected officials can help make the changes you want at a larger scale. Vote! Vote! Vote!
