Tiramisu

Tiramisu originated in Italy, likely in the Veneto region, during the 1960s or 1970s, though its exact origins are debated. The dessert became popular due to its unique combination of coffee-soaked ladyfingers, mascarpone cheese, cocoa, and a touch of alcohol. Over time, tiramisu has become a beloved dessert worldwide, with variations in ingredients and preparation techniques.

In a bowl, whisk egg yolks and sugar together until thick and pale.
Add mascarpone cheese and mix until smooth.
In another bowl, whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form, then gently fold it into the mascarpone mixture.
Combine espresso and coffee liqueur (if using) in a shallow dish. Dip the ladyfingers into the coffee mixture for a few seconds and layer them in a dish.
Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, then add another layer of soaked ladyfingers and top with the remaining mascarpone mixture.
Dust with cocoa powder and refrigerate for at least 4 hours. Add dark chocolate shavings on top if desired before serving.
