Nonsurgical Treatments

Bunions result from wearing tight shoes, causing the big toe to enlarge overtime. But sometimes the toe can overlap, causing pain to the other toes.

Neuroma is when there's thicken tissue around the foot. Over time, this leads to pain, burning, and numbness.

Arthritis is joint pain and stiffness in the toes, which typically worsen with age.

Surgical Treatments

Though surgery is the last resort, it sometimes can be the only answer. For example, ankle replacement can help alleviate arthritis. And ankle replacement, called the Illizarov technique, can help keep painful joints apart.

There's also the option of ankle fusion, removing joint surfaces to fuse two bones in one.
