Welcome to the Spooky Lab and History of Halloween
Halloween's origins date back over 2,000 years to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter. The Celts believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead was blurred, and spirits could roam the earth. When Christianity spread to Celtic regions, the church tried to replace pagan festivals with Christian holidays, leading to the creation of All Saints' Day on November 1st. The evening before, known as All Hallows' Eve, evolved into what we now call Halloween. Over time, Halloween incorporated traditions from various cultures, including costume wearing, carving pumpkins, and trick-or-treating, transforming into a fun, festive celebration of the supernatural.
