El Ateneo Grand Splendid
El Ateneo

Located in the neighborhood Recoleta, El Ateneo Grand Splendid wasn’t always a bookstore. It was built in 1919 as a theater — El Grand Splendid. Many productions later, in 1929, it was transformed into a cinema, the first one in Buenos Aires to show sound film. However, in the year 2000, it was given a new purpose — a bookstore. This gorgeous bookstore follows the structure of an old delightful theater: the stage, a coffee shop; the auditorium, displays with books and more books. Give el Ateneo a visit and immerse yourself in Argentinian culture and history!
