Resource Gathering and Mining
Mining is not just about digging holes - it's about strategic resource gathering that will determine Steve's survival and success. From basic stone tools to diamond armor, everything begins with proper mining techniques.
Essential Mining Preparation
Before venturing into the depths, Steve needs to gather these crucial supplies:
Multiple pickaxes (stone or better), plenty of torches, a water bucket for lava encounters, sufficient food, a crafting table, and a furnace. Having spare wood is also important for crafting more tools or torches if needed.
Tool Crafting
Tools follow a standard crafting pattern, requiring specific materials along with sticks. The basic tools include:
Pickaxe - For mining stone and ores
Shovel - For digging dirt, gravel, and sand
Axe - For chopping wood
Sword - For combat

Armor Crafting
Armor provides crucial protection against hostile mobs and falls. A full set includes:
Helmet - Protects the head
Chestplate - Provides the most protection
Leggings - Protects the lower body
Boots - Protects the feet and reduces fall damage

Mining Hazards
The underground holds many dangers Steve must watch for:
- Lava pools can appear suddenly when mining. Always carry a water bucket.
- Cave-ins can occur with gravel and sand. Mine upward carefully.
- Hostile mobs spawn in dark areas. Place torches frequently.
- Deep ravines and abandoned mineshafts pose falling risks. Bridge carefully.
Efficient Mining Techniques
Strip mining involves creating long tunnels at diamond level (Y=12) with smaller tunnels branching off every third block. This maximizes ore exposure while minimizing the blocks mined.
Staircase mining provides safe access to deeper levels while potentially exposing ores. Start at the surface and mine down at a 45-degree angle.
